For everyone at the bar
Accessibility
THE PUB is meant to be a room anybody can walk into. This site is built the same way — to be read and used by everyone, however you get here.
Our commitment
We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, as our guide. That standard is a floor, not a finish line, and we treat it that way.
What this site does today
- Works without a mouse. Every link, button and menu can be reached and used from the keyboard, and whatever you are on is always visibly outlined. A “Skip to content” link is the first stop on every page.
- Respects reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, the fades and the developing hero photo are stilled rather than played.
- Works without JavaScript. The beer list, the vendors and the events come from data files; with scripts turned off the pages still read, and each section says plainly where to find the same information.
- Readable colour. The cellar palette was measured, not eyeballed: body text sits at 15:1 against the dark ground, and the gold label voice at 10:1 — both well past the AA requirement. Colours that measured too low are used only as decoration, never as text.
- Structured for screen readers. Real headings in order, labelled navigation and footer regions, the current page marked, and the menu button announcing whether it is open or closed. Decorative icons are hidden from screen readers; the phone, email and social links carry spoken labels.
- Resizes. Text and layout reflow down to a phone and back up under browser zoom, without anything being clipped or needing sideways scrolling.
Still being worked on
Accessibility work is never finished, and we would rather name the gaps than imply there are none:
- Event posters. Posters are photographs of printed artwork. Each one is labelled with the event it advertises, but the text printed on the poster itself is not yet fully written out for screen-reader users. Every event’s date, time and performer is given as real text beside the poster.
- Type and photography are loaded from third-party services (Google Fonts). We do not control their delivery.
- Anything we link out to — Facebook, Instagram — is outside our control and is not covered by this statement.
Tell us about a barrier
If something here got in your way, we want to hear about it — it is the fastest way this page gets shorter. Email generalmanager@paoniaunitedbrew.com or call (970) 417-7759, and tell us what page you were on and what happened.
